There are several factors Communities Against Substance Abuse activates for planning prevention strategies. A communal definition of a substance abuse problem is imperative to the development of effective solutions.
Communities Against Substance Abuse work with groups to identify:
- A description of the setting of the substance abuse problem
- Who to involve in the planning process
- Community resources
In order to develop solutions, we must identifying desired outcomes through:
- Identifying community-wide conditions that we want to create
- Identifying strategies that will result in those improved conditions
- Developing short, medium, and long-term measures of progress
Outcomes will not be achieved unless community participation is initiated to:
- Continue with the effort over time
- Actively participate in implementation of the solution
- Co-design evaluation measures
- Co-design accountability mechanisms
