Dozens of Local Businesses Learn How To Stay Drug-Free
Safe and Drug-Free Forum Teaches Employers About Their Rights and Liabilities

What:

More than 70 representatives from San Diego County Businesses get together for a breakfast forum, to hear from experts on setting-up a Safe and Drug-Free Workplace.

Why:
Nearly 8% of U.S. workers use alcohol or illicit drugs on the job.
More than one-third of U.S. workers believe their co-workers have used drugs within the past year.
Substance abusers file more health insurance claims, and are more likely to file for workers compensation.
Three-fourths of all drug users are employed.
Drug-free workplaces deny drug dealers one of their major distribution markets–the workplace.
Employee education programs have a “ripple effect,” helping educate other people the community outside the workplace.
Companies can minimize their liabilities and ensure the best service to their customers, by having a Safe and Drug Free Policy. That policy can also aid workers who need help dealing with substance abuse problems.
Employers need to know their responsibilities, as well as their rights.
