East County High School Journalists Learn About the Dangers of Alcohol and Club Drugs
Pass Message to Peers Through School Newspapers


Over 60 high school journalists from throughout East County participate on forum on the dangers of drinking and club drugs. Future reporters learn from experts about hotel and limousine policies on alcohol and other drug consumption, zero tolerance laws on underage drinking. Journalists publish articles in school newspapers to send message to their peers in time for prom and graduation.

Heads of Universities Sign Historic Agreement to Address Alcohol Problems Among College Students


College presidents, student leaders, and public officials sign policies that will change the environment that tolerates, if not encourages, underage and high-risk drinking. The policies will address: the promoting, advertising, and pricing of alcoholic beverages in ways that appeal to youth, enforcing underage drinking laws on and off campus, alcohol-free housing, intervention for students experiencing drinking problems, and other issues affecting student environments.

SAN DIEGO, CA – On July 5, 1999, a 19 year-old male placed his bottle of vodka on the sand and walked into the ocean. He drowned. On New Year’s Eve 1999, a 20 year-old female from New York visiting her cousin in San Diego went to sleep after partying and drinking all night. She never woke up. On March 30, 2000, 15 year-old Francisco Isais Jr. was drinking beer and vodka in a vacant lot. He then tried to cross the trolley tracks walking between two cars. He never made it across.
