Kick-Off For Healthy Start Planning Grant
Cook-out to Cook Up New Ideas to Create a Safer, healthier Community
$50,000 to Plan Improvements, and Change for La Mesa West


What:
Community picnic to kick off implementation of $50,000 Healthy Start Planning Grant from the State of California to improve La Mesa West, an area traditionally challenged with socioeconomic issues. Picnic participants will light up the grill, and fire off suggestions for community change.

Who:
More than 100 concerned community residents, and representatives from law enforcement, schools, neighborhoods, youth groups, businesses, local government, and faith communities are expected to attend.


Why:
To address pressing issues of transportation, childcare, parenting, healthcare, bi-lingual education, and recreational green space for children, and adults.
To assess community needs, and plan how to meet those needs under the Healthy Start Planning Grant.
To celebrate Crime-Free Multi-Housing certification, and student achievement, and high attendance at local schools.

When:
Friday, September 15, 2000, 5 PM to 7 PM

Where:

Highwood Park
4200 Parks Avenue, La Mesa

(Next to La Mesa Middle School)
