What:
Kick off rally for 10-day countywide Operation Safeguard with law enforcement and communities working together to protect our youth over the Labor Day holiday period. Operation Safeguard includes random DUI checkpoints, shoulder tap and decoy operations, compliance checks and keg registration enforcement. At rally, young people will present huge THANK YOU card to law enforcement.

Who:

Why:
To reduce youth access and use of alcohol.
According to San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office, 23 underage youth who died in the past nine months had alcohol in their systems.
To demonstrate parental and community support for vigorous enforcement and adjudication of underage drinking laws.
In a San Diego Unified School District survey, 75% of high school students said they had used alcohol, 78% said they had ridden with a drunk driver, 58% said older friends buy alcohol for them.
