Grossmont Union High School District Launches First Parent/Student Resource Center at El Cajon Valley High

Students, parents, community leaders and school officials launch the first parent/student resource center for the Grossmont Unified High School District.

The center, a partnership between local community agencies, social service providers, and schools, offers access to FREE service that the school district generally does not provide such as drug and alcohol counseling, parenting and family involvement classes and community leadership training.

Lemon Grove Receives $300,000 to Fight Substance Abuse


Community advocates, law enforcement and health professionals kick off the LEMON GROVE DRUG FREE COMMUNITIES SUPPORT PROGRAM. Funded by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP), at nearly $100,000 per year, the three-year program of the LEMON GROVE PROJECT will address substance abuse in the community and the problems associated with it. Project representatives will unveil statistics relating to Lemon Grove substance abuse problems.

East County Teens Launch "Operation Stop 'N Bust"
Ask Local Liquor Stores to Display Posters to Stop Adults from Providing Alcohol to Minors and Law Enforcement to Bust Those Who Provide

East County students canvas local liquor stores in Santee and El Cajon, urging owners to post posters warning adults that is against the law to furnish alcohol to a minor. Youth will also ask local authorities to cite and prosecute adult providers. This marks the Southern California kick-off of the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control shoulder tap enforcement campaign.

Recovering Drug Addicts Blast Prop. 36


Judges, treatment professionals and graduates of the San Diego County Superior Drug Court will highlight deceptive details of California's Proposition 36, which would make it illegal for judges to send non-violent drug offenders to jail. With no money for drug testing and no threat of jail for addicts who continue to use drugs, recovering addicts say Proposition 36 provides no incentives to make the difficult life changes necessary to give up drugs.
