Panel Advocates Y2K Resolution
Celebrate Responsibly to Ring in 2000
The East County Hospitality
Resource Panel (HRP) is urging people throughout San Diego County
to make a special New Year's Millennium resolution to celebrate responsibly
this holiday season and throughout Y2K.
The East County HRP, one of several hospitality resource panels in
the county, is a community-based collaborative of regulatory and law enforcement
agencies, retail alcohol industry representatives and community health groups
that provides assistance to support the responsible sale and service of
alcohol beverages. HRP works with retail alcohol outlets to promote
designated driver programs and best serving practices to reduce alcohol
sales to minors, adult intoxication and alcohol-impaired driving. HRP also
offers tips for holding safe and enjoyable at-home parties.
 |
Plan
activities that encourage socializing, such as charades, so the celebration
does not center around alcohol. If people are involved in other activities
they'll be less likely to drink too much. |
 |
Have
plenty of food available in order to slow alcohol absorption. High-protein
foods such as like cheese & crackers, meats and nuts are best and
appeal to most people. |
 |
Offer
a wide selection of beverages, including low and nonalcoholic wines
and beers, or a party punch of sweet and tart juices, sodas and flavored
mineral water. |
 |
At
least one hour before the end of the party, stop alcohol service and
provide Nonalcoholic beverages with food such as desserts. |
 |
Arrange
alternative transportation and lodging for guests who may become alcohol
impaired. Coordinate designated drivers. Note: a designated driver
drinks NO alcohol. |
