Vista High School Teachers to Receive Meth Identification Training

Students won't be the only ones doing the studying when the 1999 school year gets underway at the two high schools in the Vista Unified School District this fall. The Vista Unified School Board has voted to train high school teachers and administrators to recognize the signs of drug use and abuse on district campuses. The plan is part of an ambitious and groundbreaking new effort to make the upcoming school year safe and drug-free for the district's staff and students.

"We saw the shocking county statistics suggesting that younger and younger kids were using deadly methamphetime and we decided to be proactive," said Vicky Gorham, Director of Student Services for the district.

"We're not just teaching staff how to spot drug problems, we're teaching staff what to do when they believe a student is abusing drugs. We're making sure parents have answers and treatment options to get help for their children. Most importantly we're ridding our campuses of drugs which threaten the Vista School Unified School District's unfailing commitment to academics," said Gorham.
