IMPERIAL BEACH – Residents, business owners, and employees of the Nestor and Imperial Beach community gathered near the "99 Cents Only" store on Palm Avenue to protest the approval of an application by the store to sell beer and wine. Over 60 formal protests have been filed to the application, which is pending license with Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC).

The designer drug, Ecstacy also known deceptively as the "hug drug" was busted at the Los Angeles International Airport upon arrival as a result of a 10-month investigation. There were 2.1 million tablets or doses being transported here for sale. This drug is associated with the club scene, college and widespread among military. It is manufactured in Amsterdam.

Newell had other information he wants to make sure local residents know about. On Monday, July 31, at 6 p.m. it's the first meeting for the Santee Substance Abuse Prevention Team. The meeting will be held at the Board of Education at 9625 Cuyamaca Street.
