| 3 April 2002 - USA Today Letters to the Editor Good Housekeeping I empathize with tenants who would be forced onto the streets under a court rule for zero tolerance for drugs in public housing. (Tenants can be evicted for others drug use, News, March 27). But what about the rest of the public-housing population? What about the right to live in a safe and drug-free environment? The children of public housing are the most vulnerable to succumbing to a life of addition and crime if they live among the underworld of drug use, dealing, and violence. The secondhand effects of drugs too quickly become firsthand involvement. This ruling says no to public housing as drug dens of crime, and yes to safe and drug-free communities. Mary Ann Dunwell Director of Communications Communities Against Substance Abuse/Partnership for a Drug-Free San Diego El Cajon, CA. |
