Mom pleads guilty to running meth lab

VISTA – A mother accused of running a basement methamphetamine lab in an Escondido home where her three young children were present pleaded guilty Tuesday to two criminal counts and faces two years in prison.

Charise Kane, 33, pleaded guilty to one count of felony child endangerment and one count of felony drug possession, said Deputy District Attorney Frank Jackson. Sentencing for Kane is set for June 3. A preliminary hearing for co-defendants Charles Kane, 33, and Mark Woessner, 34, is set for May 8. The three were arrested Feb. 27 after police and drug agents raided the residence in the 800 block of Citrus Avenue.

"When we entered the basement, the fumes from the meth lab were so thick, we could see a cloud of chemical vapors," Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement Agent Chris Paris said earlier. "That cloud of fumes could have been ignited by the pilot light of the water heater in the basement or the fire in the fireplace upstairs."

A 9-month-old and 3-year-old twins in the house were turned over to Child Protective Services, officials said. It is unclear whether the children actually lived there.
