Escondido trio plead innocent

VISTA – A couple and another man accused of operating a methamphetamine lab in an Escondido home where three young children were present pleaded innocent Friday to felony child endangerment and drug charges.

Charise and Charles Kane, both 33, and Mark Woessner, 34, were arrested Tuesday after police and drug agents raided a basement in the 800 block of Citrus Avenue in Escondido. The trio entered their pleas before Superior Court Judge William Draper.

"When we entered the basement, the fumes from the meth lab were so thick, we could see a cloud of chemical vapors," Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement Agent Chris Paris said earlier. "That cloud of fumes could have been ignited by the pilot light of the water heater in the basement or the fire in the fireplace upstairs."

A 9-month-old and 3-year-old twins at the house were turned over to Child Protective Services, officials said. All three adults are due back in court March 11 for a disposition hearing.
