| 27 February 2002 - San Diego Daily Transcript Voters to settle fight over beach alcohol ban By David Hicks San Diego County voters will settle a few local disputes at the polls Tuesday, including the proposed alcohol ban on certain San Diego beaches and a fight over the citys taxing powers. Prog G: Placed on the ballot through the initiative process, the measure allows voters to decide whether or not to allow the city of San Diego to establish a temporary, 24-hour-a-day ban on alcohol consumption in several areas of Mission Beach and Pacific Beach. Approved by the council in early 2001, the ban was to be in effect between June 2001 and December 2002. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers and the President of the San Diego Police Officers Association, among other groups, signed the ballot argument in favor of the ban. The argument against it includes the signatures of members of the Pacific Beach and Mission Beach town councils. |
