Two easy ways to report methamphetamine labs

I'd like to add one more issue to the excellent coverage by reporter Mark Arner in "Web site takes tips on drug labs" (B Section, Jan. 17).

Drug-endangered children are the dirty, hungry and neglected victims of methamphetamine use, dealing and manufacturing. Ordinary citizens can help these children by contacting www.no2meth.org or 1-877-no2meth. If you report children living in a drug house, your confidential call or Internet message will get top priority.

One woman who called the hotline to report criminal drug activity recounted driving through nearby streets at all hours to round up mere toddlers who had wandered away from their meth-infested home and drug-dazed parents.

DEC and Child Protective Services worker Rhonda Oliver tells about finding children crawling through spilled meth and chemicals in four-day-old diapers. She cannot describe the stench.

If you know of suspicious activity in your neighborhood, contact the Web site or hotline. If the threat of methamphetamine explosions, leftover chemical dump sites seeping into the ground, or drug-related violence doesn't convince you to click on the Web site or dial up the hotline, then do it for the children. Their tiny fingers cannot seek help, and their scared little voices cannot be heard, without people who care.
