| 15 May 2001 - The San Diego Union-Tribune Re: Just Say Know I was reading your article on DanceSafe, club drugs, and the rave scene and felt sad to learn that youth and young adults have to use these substances and attend these types of events to feel like they belong, that they are part of a family. But even if that were the case, what type of family allows their members to abuse drugs and destroy their lives? Do young people really feel ravers have their best interest in mind when they allow and encourage them to use drugs? I dont think so. Young people consider ravers to be their friends and family because they allow them to indulge in their destructive behavior and will only talk to them about how good the drugs will make them feel. They never tell them about the dangerous side effects. These drugs are harmful. If they werent, they would not be controlled substances. With regards to DanceSafe; its members defend rave parties to death, saying that they are not a drug haven, that these kids come to raves for the community to dance to smile to laugh and to love. If that is the case, then why is DanceSafe present at these events? If rave parties were not a place for people to do drugs, they also would not be worried about undercover cops. If they were not promoting drug use, they would not give the drugs back. They would take them away. Isnt that what a mom or dad would do?
