It's not your father's underage drinking problem

Re: "Students grieve for classmate (B-1, Jan. 25):

Here we go again. How sad, what a tragedy, what a broken record. When are we going to wake up and count the coffins?

The death of the Mira Mesa teenager is not your father's underage drinking problem. Teen-agers today drink more often, consume more and mix alcohol with an alphabet soup of illicit drugs – such as the date rape drug du jour, GHB; MDMA; PMA; LSD; and/or methamphetamine. We know that alcohol so mixed exponentially increases the danger of death.

This is not about just Mira Mesa. The community at large must support prosecution of adults who provide alcohol and drugs to minors, with no plea bargains allowed.

Kids will be kids, but adults should know better.

I'm a teen-ager who used to think that Poway was a place with no abuse of drugs or alcohol. Thanks to your story, I now realize that I should be paying more attention to my surroundings, and the people I'm with.

Thank you for publishing the truth, not just the happy side of life.
