Teen death

“Who provided the alcohol?” That’s what community groups want to know, in the wake of Nia Coleman’s death. The 14-year-old girl died after she was found unconscious Tuesday night, at Mira Mesa Community Park.

The girl was found partially disrobed, in a corner of the park. Friends say she had attended an event at a nearby teen center, but left with an 18-year-old male. It’s not yet clear what killed the girl.

Young people who were at the teen center Tuesday night say some teenagers were drinking alcohol, and authorities believe Coleman had alcohol in her system.

This morning, Communities Against Substance Abuse and other groups gathered in the park, to call for strict enforcement of laws that deal with underage drinking. They also called for prosecution of adults who provide alcohol to minors.
