Alcohol-buying sting nets two suspects

By Elizabeth Wilberg Fitzsimons

VISTA – Two people were arrested on suspicion of furnishing alcohol to minors during a four-hour "should-trap" operation here Wednesday afternoon.

The operation, in which 18- and 19-year-old decoys asked adults to buy alcohol for them, was the second in North County since Aug. 25. It was part of a countywide effort to crack down on underage drinking and adults who facilitate it.

Operation Safeguard will continue through the holiday weekend, authorities said. Local law enforcement agencies, including the California Highway Patrol, Sheriff's Department, San Diego police and local city police departments from Chula Vista to Carlsbad, will continue to conduct random sobriety checkpoints, decoy operations and keg registration.
