Captain Bill McClurg, President
Board of Directors
Communities Against Substance Abuse (CASA)
554 Washington El Cajon, CA 92021

Dear Captain McClurg,

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Lemon Grove Project, the staff and partners of our community collaborative, and the residents of Lemon Grove, I want to express our appreciation for the support, guidance, and mentorship provided to the Project in our obtaining the federal grant from the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. There is no question that without CASA, we would not have received this needed funding.

Not only did CASA identify this opportunity to us, you were willing to send our executive director to a bidders conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico at your expense. I remember in a subsequent meeting, I listed 17 reasons why we would not get this funding. I am glad that I was misguided and your staff showed how it could be done.

CASA staff were most helpful in the writing the grant, understanding the federal jargon and forms, and actually put the final grant package together for us How appropriate it was that it was your staff that found the press release on the Internet that documented the grant award.

Now that we have received the award, we will continue to look toward your agency for guidance in implementing this substance abuse prevention grant. CASA has been and will continue to be a guiding force in the East County region and a real partner in the Lemon Grove Project.

With warm regards,
Chuck Pennell,
President
